2018 CHECKLIST TO IMPROVE YOUR EYESIGHT

Cataract, glaucoma, dry eye syndrome, myopia (nearsightedness), hypermetropia (farsightedness) are some common eye health concerns which might lead to loss of vision if go unnoticed and undiagnosed. People with these eyes conditions might also require eye surgery to safeguard their vision. These conditions are more common in adults over 40 but can affect anyone at anytime.
It is extremely important to focus on quality eye care to prevent unwanted eye diseases. Though not all the eyes problems are preventable and avoidable but we can reduce the risk of eye diseases at greater extent by following healthy measures. It is advisable to get your eyes tested at least twice in a year to prevent something more serious. Listing some tips by following which you can improve your eyesight and prevent your eyes from vision loss.
1.Cut down your caffeine consumption-
Caffeine has been greatly linked to several health issues and diseases.Excessive consumption of the caffeine can severely harm your eyesight.According to researchers people who consume more than three cup of coffee or even tea are at greater risk of developing glaucoma, a leading cause of eyes blindness. It may also deplete your tear film, dry out your eyes and lead to inflammation or irritation.
 
2. Quit Smoking-
Smoking has been strongly linked to age related eye diseases such as macular degeneration, cataract, glaucoma and dry eye syndrome. Smokers are three times more likely to suffer from vision loss. So it is recommended to quit smoking and help prevent eye diseases.
 
3. Eat healthy food-
Your overall eyesight depends on your food also. Eat foods that are rich in omega-3, zinc, vitamin C and E.Eat more green leafy vegetables, fish and carrot.Vitamin rich food prevents you from developing retinal problem. Avoid eating foods that cause obesity and problems like diabetes as it may harm your eyesight.
 
4. Avoid digital eyestrain-
Constant staring on the screen of computer, tablets or mobile phones develop digital eyestrain that causes dryness in your eyes. It is the most common eye problem due to advancement in technology. When we use digital products, our eyes blink half as much as when they are not staring on the screen. Blinking is essential to keep eyes moist and fresh. So it is recommended to follow 20-20-20 rule. According to this rule you are advised to look 20 feet away after every 20 minutes for at least 20 seconds.
 
5. Wear Sunglasses-
Direct exposure of sunlight and UV rays can put you on risk of eye diseases like cataract. Use of UV block sunglasses not only prevent retinal damage but also prevent cancerous growth on eyes. Make sure you use 100 percent UV rays blocking sunglasses.
6. Protect from eye injury-
One of the most common causes of vision loss in India is eye injuries. It is recommended to follow proper eye protection during sports such as cricket, hockey and while performing some household chores.
