An anal fistula is a small tunnel that develops between the end of the intestine and the skin near the anus. They often occur due to infection near the anus due to the accumulation of pus (abscess) in adjacent tissue. Symptoms of an anal fistula are skin irritation around the anus, smelly discharge from near your anus, swelling and redness around anus, difficulty controlling bowel movements.
